ADHD Testing for Adults

ADHD testing for adults can be especially helpful when challenges have been long-standing or difficult to fully understand through therapy alone.

Testing for adults may help clarify concerns related to:

ADHD Testing for Children (Ages 8+)

For children, ADHD testing can help parents and caregivers better understand why a child may be struggling—and what supports will actually help.

Testing for children ages 8+ may be appropriate when there are concerns about:

Attention, focus, or impulsivity
Executive functioning skills (organization, planning, memory)
Behavioral challenges at home or school
Difficulty following directions or completing tasks
A need for documentation to support school accommodations

What Our Testing Includes

Our evaluations use a whole-person approach, often combining:

Attention and executive functioning testing
Cognitive screening (as it relates to attention and processing)
Behavioral and rating scales (parent, teacher, and/or self-report)

Autism Evaluations at 3Rivers

We offer autism evaluations that include the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule, Second Edition (ADOS-2). The ADOS-2 is a structured, interactive assessment that helps our testing team observe social communication, interaction, and behavior.

The ADOS-2 is one part of a comprehensive evaluation. Our team also considers developmental history and other relevant information before making a diagnostic determination. After the evaluation, we meet with you to explain the findings, answer your questions, and provide a written report with general recommendations.

The ADOS-2 is considered the gold standard in autism testing because it’s:

Comprehensive in observing behaviors associated with autism
Research-based and highly standardized
Consistent and reliable across different evaluators
Useful and accurate for both children and adults
Helpful for identifying subtle social or communication differences

Autism Evaluations for Children Ages 8+ and Adults

At 3Rivers Therapists, we offer autism evaluations for children ages 8 and older, teens, and adults. Evaluations include the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule, Second Edition (ADOS-2), along with a review of developmental history and other relevant information.

For children and teens, we gather information from caregivers to better understand development, communication, social experiences, and day-to-day functioning. For adults, we explore both current experiences and lifelong patterns, recognizing that autism may present differently across people and stages of life.

Following the evaluation, we meet with you to explain the results and provide a written report with general recommendations.

What does autism testing include?

At 3Rivers Therapists, autism evaluations for children ages 8 and older, teens, and adults include:

An intake appointment to discuss current concerns, developmental history, and day-to-day experiences.
An in-person ADOS-2 assessment involving conversation and activities that allow our team to observe social communication and interaction.
A review of the information gathered to determine whether the findings support an autism diagnosis. The ADOS-2 is one part of that decision; it does not provide a diagnosis on its own. CDC
A feedback appointment and written report to explain the results and provide general recommendations.

For children and teens, the intake includes a caregiver’s perspective.

For adults, we discuss current experiences and developmental history, including early-life information when available.

How long does an ADOS test take?

Most ADOS assessments take 40 minutes to one hour.

Does the ADOS diagnose autism on its own?

No – the ADOS helps inform an autism diagnosis, but it’s never used as a standalone diagnostic tool.

Clinicians combine ADOS results with other important information, such as:

Developmental and medical history
Interviews or questionnaires
Everyday behavior patterns
Strengths and challenges
Additional assessments, if needed

ADOS is one of the most effective and important tools, but it’s part of a full autism evaluation, not the whole process.

Insurance & Cost

Insurance is accepted for ADHD testing & Autism Evaluations. Coverage varies by plan, and some plans require pre-authorization. You’ll receive a cost estimate before testing begins, and billing details are reviewed clearly during intake.
